China Retail Sales Slowed in August

Total sales of China's top 100 retailers in August dropped 0.5% from same month a year ago, compared with 1.3% year on year growth rate in July and 0.9% growth in August last year, according the data released by commercial statistics centre today.
​
By categories breakdown, total turnover in the retail food beverage sector dropped 6% year on year, compared with 0.3% drop in July.
​
Fashion clothes sector sales dropped 0.2% from same period a year ago. Home alliances sector total sales climbed 6% when compared with August last year.
​
Gold and Jewellery sector sales fell 12.1%, compared with 7.9% growth in August a year ago.
​
CosmeticS and skincare products sector sales edged up 2.7% year on year, higher than the 1.1% growth a year ago. Home hygiene and consumer products sales inched up 0.5%, compared with 1.5% drop in August.
